Prime Real Estate. Those three words should apply to every surface, corner and crevice in your home or office. If you think of your space as valuable, you'll be less likely to clutter it with unimportant items. For example, what's on your desk right now? If it's anything that you don't use on a regular basis, it does not belong there. Remove it; I'll wait. Great!! Now that you only have those items that serve a daily purpose, you should be able to do two things on your desk right now: 1). See the top of it and 2). Use it. That wasn't so hard, was it? No. The hard part comes in keeping it that way.

A Lifesaver
Gotcha!! This isn't about candy or a life preserver or raft, but this idea can save your life. Now that I have your attention, let's get started.
Go to your bathroom medicine cabinet, kitchen cabinet and junk drawer. Now take all old medications and throw them out. No, I'm not going to hold over your head that you should store most of your medications in a cool, dry place, out of direct light and away from moisture, but you know you should. Be certain to check with your local government to see if they have a hazardous waste program for disposal of toxic materials. Don't flush in the toilet or pour medications in the sink. Use a marker to cover all identifying information and leave the top on to prevent any children or pets from gaining access.

Something New

I wanted to learn to belly dance because it's such an expressive outlet (and really burns calories-I love that part too). I researched classes in my area and found many available, but I didn't go. I, too had many valid reasons. Then I decided that I would not allow those reasons to keep me from trying something new. Now, I had to take a different route than I had originally planned (the formal classes), but guess what? I'm learning to belly dance and I love it.
Are there things you've always wanted to do, but for multiple reasons you haven't? What's holding you back? Are you over-scheduled, overwhelmed, under-budgeted or lack motivation? Is it some other reason? Whatever is holding you back from the "something new" you want to do, push through it and get it done.

Mistakes and the Editing Queen
I love to write and I like to think that I have a great handle on the English language. But, lately I've noticed that, on occasion, "things" seem to slip under my editing radar; a misspelling hear (just kidding, I did that for effect; I know it should be spelled h-e-r-e), a word omitted there. Even though I reread each post multiple times before I submit it, some things still get by.
Why am I lamenting on the woes of my mistakes? Well, it's because it drives home the point I often write about; it's not about perfection. It's okay to mess up-you'll survive. Of course, I strive to be error free, but sometimes I make mistakes and post them before she sees them (yes, they should be caught before I post, but again, not perfect). Thankfully, I have an eagle-eyed editor and I'd like to acknowledge her. I think she's the best editor in the world. Once she spots my error, I get a gentle email about it and I make the correction. She's painfully shy and doesn't like to be in the spotlight (we're working on that), but I'm letting you all know about Tia, the Editing Queen. I'd post her picture, but then she'd go into hiding(SMILE). As she's reading this, all of the color is slowly draining from her face!! Let's here it for the Editing Queen!! Hip, hip, hooray and repeat!!
By the by, I did a quick search and found that I am not the only person who seems to have this same issue. What about you? How do you deal with your mistakes?

Happy Birthday Malinda!!
A good friend is hard to find, so when you have a true friend, keep her close and cherish the relationship.
Today is Malinda's birthday. She's my dear, close friend and we've known each other since we were ten years old. We laugh and are amazed when we say we've know each other for almost 30 years!! Thirty years, whew, that's a long time. We've never lost contact and can depend on each other in good and bad times. Malinda, remember our "vent" sessions, always!!
Join me in wishing my good friend, Malinda a very happy and blessed birthday!!
Happy birthday, Malinda!!
I'd sing, but that's not my gift!!

- I am Dr. Darnita L. Payden, Executive Director/Owner of Dr. DClutter™ Life Management, a division of PreciousOnes™ LLC. I have a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and over 20 years of experience working to help clients discover their strengths and talents. Having worked as a therapist, college professor, grief specialist and trainer, I have encountered in my journey many of the issues my clients may face. I have a sincere desire to help you find clarity, organization and independence in your life and environments. I know that life can be hectic, but I desire to help my clients bring as much order, peace and enjoyment back into their lives as is possible. What separates me from the norm? I focus on the client from a holistic perspective. I realize that most people desire a functional and an organized life, but may simply need support, understanding and information about why they have the habits or tendencies that have led to disorganization. I do not perform “quick fixes” or provide “one-size-fits-all” guidance, but I strive to provide strategies to my clients that will be life changing and useful for a lifetime. Dr. DClutter™ is a name well earned!!
