I often read a small town paper online called the Daily Herald. In the opinion section, there is something called Sound Off! The purpose is for readers to share comments about what matters to them, ranging from topics about life in the city, politics and personal pet peeves, to compliments and complaints. I thoroughly enjoy reading Sound Off! and decided to offer something similar to you, my faithful followers. I love it!! In Sound Off! readers are encouraged to stay on topic, be respectful and the use of foul or obscene language, personal attacks or uses of another's identity to post are not allowed. The rules for what I am calling "Let Go!! with Dr. DClutter™" are the same. Every Friday is our official Let Go!! w/Dr. DClutter™ day. I'll post your advice, ideas, stories and thoughts. It'll be a place for you to share your life management and organization issues as well as discuss life events that inspire, empower or bother you. You can "leave it all here", as long as you follow the rules I discussed above. All comments will be reviewed before posting. So get ready, get set and Let Go!! w/Dr. DClutter™.

Undo

I absolutely appreciate the "undo" feature on my computer. If only there was a button we could click in life to undo some of the things we've done that we wish we hadn't. Sadly, there's no undo button in life as there is on my computer. It's difficult in reality to take back a harsh word, or undo an action or relationship. Sure, we can apologize for unkind words, repeat an action or end a relationship, but the experience will still leave an indelible mark. Take care and exercise caution over the things, events, circumstances, or people that you allow to enter your life.

Positive

Don't discount the power of positive thinking, but be sure you follow it up with positive action.

Blanket Statements

"My life is a mess." "My life is out of control." What does that really mean? Does it mean that your entire life is that way? Probably not. But we've grown accustomed to making blanket statements without actually meaning what we say. What you're probably really saying is that you're having difficulty in one or more aspects of life. If you take that view, you will be more successful in managing your life and finding the proper resources to help you move forward.

Life Management

What is life? Is it merely a series of actions, behaviors, experiences, circumstances, and events of which we have no control? If that were the case, then it would mean a bleak outlook for most of us. Gladly, life is more than those things, especially when we really take the time to be honest about the things we can and cannot control.

In the Closet

It's not a secret that I love clothes and shopping for clothes. Okay, I love shopping for anything!! However, there are times when it doesn't make sense to shop, especially if you have a closet full of clothes already. Here's a neat idea, go shopping in your own closet. Okay, once you've picked yourself up off of the floor, read on. I can almost guarantee that many of you have clothes that you've purchased, but never worn. Go ahead and look, I'll wait…See, wasn't I correct? If you didn't find new, you at least found rarely worn. I've heard that we wear approximately 10% of our wardrobe, 90% of the time, so there's bound to be something in there you can wear. It's a win, win situation. You won't spend any money, you might find a few new outfits, or at the very least, you may find a few items that you can donate.

VaCa Home

Let's face it, for many of us, money is tight, scarce, missing, gone, non-existent or just plain low, so we may not be able to take a dream vacation any time soon. Here's an idea-take a vacation in your own city or town. Visit places that you've probably driven past countless times, but never ventured a peek inside. Be a tourist and take a ride on a tour mobile, or visit a museum, or simply visit other neighborhoods. It will cost you less than the price of a few gallons of gas and maybe a lunch, but it can be a way to vacation while at home.

It's Okay

Many times, we're so preoccupied with not burdening others with our problems in order to appear strong, that we hide our true feelings. Life can be difficult some days. Maybe you're having trouble with your car, your finances are being challenged or you're dealing with a difficult health or family issue. It's okay to say that life sucks, is hard, and is too much. Positivity is great and I encourage you to strive for it, but living in reality is acceptable too. Feel free to express your true feelings. Those who truly love you won't mind hearing about your bad day.

Later

Can you guess what five-letter word is akin to a four-letter-word in my humble opinion? Guessed yet? It's L-A-T-E-R. That short word gives you a license to procrastinate, avoid, side step and just plain not accomplish anything. Here's a challenge for you-strive to remove it from your vocabulary and then note if your productivity improves.

Find Your Motivation

So often we look to others to motivate us when what we need is already present within us, but we have just not yet realized our own potential. What motivates you? What gets you out of bed every morning? Take the time to give this some deep thought and take inventory of what things motivate you.

Second Time Around

I was recently speaking with a friend and we were discussing our respective professions and I shared that my goals are to help people get tasks accomplished, habits changed, and improve their lives-the second time around. That comment garnered a set of raised eyebrows, coupled with a set of perplexing eyes and a tilt of the head. "Why the second time and not the first?" Well, that's an easy answer. Many of us are troopers and desire to combat life's trials, tribulations and plain old everyday occurrences without out help, until we've discovered that what we've been trying to do just isn't working, then we seek assistance. That's why I get to help people achieve their goals on the second time around.

About Me

Washington, DC, United States
I am Dr. Darnita L. Payden, Executive Director/Owner of Dr. DClutter™ Life Management, a division of PreciousOnes™ LLC. I have a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and over 20 years of experience working to help clients discover their strengths and talents. Having worked as a therapist, college professor, grief specialist and trainer, I have encountered in my journey many of the issues my clients may face. I have a sincere desire to help you find clarity, organization and independence in your life and environments. I know that life can be hectic, but I desire to help my clients bring as much order, peace and enjoyment back into their lives as is possible. What separates me from the norm? I focus on the client from a holistic perspective. I realize that most people desire a functional and an organized life, but may simply need support, understanding and information about why they have the habits or tendencies that have led to disorganization. I do not perform “quick fixes” or provide “one-size-fits-all” guidance, but I strive to provide strategies to my clients that will be life changing and useful for a lifetime. Dr. DClutter™ is a name well earned!!
